Sometimes in your pursuit to find God and to hear His voice, to understand His will and purposes, you look in the wrong places. We are not alone in this endeavor to hear from God. Men and women throughout history have sought to hear the voice of God. Even great prophets of the Old Testament looked for God through the wrong mediums.
If you want to hear from God, you first have to believe that there is one God. Most people believe there is a god out there, somewhere. Some cosmic intelligence that gives order to the universe. But talking to God and God talking back, that’s a little unsettling for many. Throughout Bible History, God has always talked to people. We find in Holy Scripture that God communicated through dreams, visions, messages, revelations, and audibly. These subjective and personal events were accepted and received as objective truth. The very strength and authenticity of their revelations is based upon divine communication. Otherwise, how could the prophets have argued the authenticity of their revelations? We know God is eternal, He is not dead. If God is alive, which He is, He is still speaking to His people. In fact, Amos 3:7 states, "Surely the Lord God does nothing Unless He reveals His secret counsel To His servants the prophets.”

It has often been said, “That to get ahead in life it is who you know.” That statement is really not correct. The more correct statement is, “If you want to get ahead in life, it is important who knows you.” Allow me to explain what I mean by using an illustration from when I work for the Florida Senate.
If you could ask God for anything, what would it be? Wealth, notoriety, power, or influence? When King Solomon ascended to the throne of Israel, he asked for wisdom. To be given wisdom to live life and to honor God by using that wisdom would be one the greatest gift that any one could possess. However, there is one additional attribute that every follower of Christ must desire. For without it the Sacred Scriptures inform us that, “Without holiness, you will not see God.” If you are seeking to hear God’s voice—Seek His holiness. His presence flows out of His holiness. Your ability to perceive and receive His voice flows out of your desire for His holiness. If you ask for holiness, He will make you whole. Because you do not ask for anything else, He will give you everything else. Everything from God flows out of His holiness.
Obedience is a common denominator that every one of every age from the cradle to the grave struggles with compliance. Obedience is an issue of great concern when it comes to adhering to the things of God. Obedience is not optional, it is compulsory. Obedience to God is essential in your journey of “Seeking the Voice of God.” The Holy Scriptures inform us that it is, “Better to obey than to sacrifice.” If you want to hear God, obey Him, and you will experience the power of truth in action.
